Today I thought I’d share some nutritional advice that I’ve gotten from Dr. Samuel Mason with you. Dr. Mason has been my chiropractor and wellness advisor for over 30 years now. I credit his advice with my continued good health. The following information is directly from Dr. Mason unless otherwise noted or linked.

The body has over 63,000 enzyme systems in it. Magnesium operates in some 53,000 of these. It is also the fourth most abundant mineral in the body. A good way to boost your enzyme systems is to take between 600 and 1000 milligrams of magnesium per day (depending upon your body size). This will boost your enzyme systems. It is also a safe and easy way to enhance your health.  Here are a few things that magnesium can do for you:

If you don’t want to take supplements then there are plenty of other sources for magnesium. Most natural sources of magnesium are found in vegetables, especially green, leafy ones. Some other sources are: pumpkin seeds, soybeans, sunflower seeds, black beans, navy beans, salmon, and halibut.

One word of caution: start slowly with magnesium. Too much at one time has the same effect as taking Milk of Magnesia, in other words, it will clean out your digestive system very quickly!

The National Institute of Health, Office of Dietary Supplements has quite a bit of information on magnesium. Check out their site for more information on this vital mineral.
